What an incredible day!

Who would have known when David and Margaret started rewinding last night during their movie show that today would be the day it has been!? When Master Eight wandered upstairs this morning I announced to him that within a few hours we could be having a new Prime Minister… he wasn’t happy at first as he thought it meant the surfer was in!

Given the day it’s been it seems quite apt that I’m highlighting the cards from this week’s Make and Take class – Priceless! Unfortunately I’ve had two children home today with nasty coughs so I’m quite behind with the day, having only just finished clearing the tables in the studio to start doing some creating and now I look out the window I see it’s dark… there goes THAT day! Never the less though here are the cards…

This photo doesn’t show very well how all the the larger blue flowers have been twiced stamped – once on the card  itself then onto separate card where I’ve cut them out and used dimensionals under each one. I’ve done the same with the orange butterfly and of course I’ve added Dazzling Diamonds to the butterfly, as well as the small blue flowers!

And yes, I’ve used Dazzling Diamonds on this one too!!!

But no, there are no Dazzling Diamonds on this card as I was going for something a tad more “masculine” here…

Oh, and have yourself an... Inkee Fiddling Day!

But wait… we have one more day!

Oh glory, I was so accustomed to Stampin’ Up! and their  deal of the week starting on a Wednesday and finishing on Tuesday night that I automatically wrote that last night without realising that next Wednesday is the last day of June and as such will be the closing day for deal of the week instead of the usual Tuesday. Works MUCH better for me so hope it does for you also!!!

Today is bit of a blur as I had both children home with nasty coughs, fortunately though yesterday was a  different case with the “Card Crusaders” I meet with fortnightly. We were all set the challenge of demonstrating a card using any technique we liked. As if my head wasn’t hurting enough this  last week, I then had to decide on one technique amongst the hundreds out there… yeah right!

Actually it wasn’t such a hard decision as whenever I think of techniques I always think of embossing, and heat embossing at that. Anything to do with heat embossing is my idea of a good time so I went with the resist embossing technique as I’ve seen some truly inspiring work of late which I wanted to have a bit of an Inkee Fiddling with myself.

The small difference between simply heat embossing and the resist embossing technique is that you stamp your chosen image with Versamark for heat embossing with your preferred embossing powder. In this instance I’ve chosen clear embossing powder for this card as I wanted the background image I had stamped to show through the embossing.

BUT…  Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive were then sponged over the image although I’ve not done this very heavily this time as once again I wanted the stamped background image just peaking through. Once sponged the image had a quick wipe over with a paper towel to remove any ink on the embossed image.

On assembling the card it was obvious that even though the kraft cardstock worked for this card it simply wasn’t enough so with the Versamark I stamped that beautiful vines stamp found in the Vintage Vogue set all over the background. By using the Versamark it  gives the image that wonderful watermark appearance.

Of course I did have something very different in mind when I started but it simply wasn’t coming together so next week I may attempt that one again… maybe!

Another month is almost upon us…

so before it’s actually here, here is a glimpse of what we’ll be doing this week in my Technique Tuesday/Technique Thursday Class (Tuesday 1st – 9.30-11.30am and Thursday 3rd – 7-9pm). This month I’m focusing on the Stampin’ Pastels.

These are something I have to admit, if they hadn’t been a compulsory purchase in my SU Kit,I would never have bought them but THANK GOODNESS I DIDI LOVE THEM!!!

This month I’ve highlighted three different styles within this one technique. One is to make the SU! pastels POP with Versamark; a second is to use the dauber to sponge the chalk directly onto the card-stock then  from this create a wonderful lattice effect; and the last one is utilising the pastels to create a water colour effect. All very different yet all as effective as the other!

Please remember, numbers are limited in these classes so should you be interested in learning more about this wonderful technique, please contact me soon to confirm your place. Also, should these dates NOT be convenient for you, should you have at least another two friends interested in attending, a class can be arranged at a time convenient to the both of us!

Oh, and have yourself an... Inkee Fiddling Day!

What a day!!!

Today was Under 8’s Day at our school with loads of activities taking place this morning on the oval that parents and carers alike were invited to attend. To cut a long story short, and with Miss Six having won the toss for which child I should be with, we were finally on the oval, amongst all the celebrations.

We headed to the police display as this was were all the noise was coming from. Miss Six was rather chuffed with sitting in the paddy wagon, riding on the BMW, and even singing into the Highway Patrol car’s loudspeaker but mummy, oh mummy was very excited. Why? Because I had the thrill of wearing a flap jacket!

Yes I know, you’re yawning but let me tell you, I was EXCITED – and I still am! For whatever reason I’ve always found the donning of the flap jacket the ultimate. No I couldn’t tell  you why I’ve always secretly harboured this desire but for whatever reason I have and today I fulfilled this little dream. I think it’s time for the dance (and if you’ve never watched Evan Almighty you’ll have absolutely no idea what I’m on about…)!

But as you know, nothing ever goes to plan so all this took much longer then planned hence not much of my “to-do” list was accomplished today which is more then a tad annoying. However, I did get a good head-start on Girl Child’s birthday present. I had briefly thought, as I raced out the door hoping to get to the Post Office before my 4.45pm appointment, that I would have the children in bed early tonight thus I would be able to come down to the studio to complete it tonight. Therefore being on track for tomorrow but that was obviously the two pots of coffee I’d consumed talking as I’m ready for bed NOW yet I hear the children still going strong in their bedrooms ;(

One thing I did achieve was the completion of a card I put together on Monday. It was layout that had caught my eye by the very talented Sharlene Meyer of Magpie Creates. Sharlene had found it in our Autumn-Winter Mini Catty and tweaked it to her liking so I thought, why not, I have the Medallion background on order so I may just have a “tweak” myself… and I did!

This is the end result in one of my favourite colours that sadly is retiring in just a few short months, the Pumpkin. Not my usual style but I’m impressed with the end result, very crisp and clean!

Oh, and have yourself an... Inkee Fiddling Day!
