Words Create a Background!

The Dictionary Background Stamp would have to be a favorite of mine. Yes, I am aware I say that a lot but I’m fairly certain I don’t say that about EVERY stamp, lol!

Using the Dictionary Background Stamp and the new Blendabilities I had a lot of fun with the next three cards.

Dictionary - Just for You - JIF

This next card is background on background with the beautiful Pleasant Poppies Stamp. The border of the Blackberry Bliss Cardstock came about by accident. I cut out a Top Note Die Cut leaving this wonderful negative space which I almost threw out but something stopped me. So glad I kept it! 🙂

Dictionary - Poppies - JIF

For this next card I used my Aqua Painters instead of the Blendabilities for a much lighter effect. The card I CASE’d from the Annual Catalog using the Flower Shop Stamp Set with coordinating Pansy Punch.

Dictionary - Pansies - JIF

Doesn’t the Linen Thread give a subtle yet beautiful finish to the last two cards?! I also trialed the new Gold Pen on this card, noice!

I’m placing orders tonight so if there’s anything you require please let me know today and I’ll add yours and fingers-crossed we’ll have them here by the end of next week!

Oh, and have yourself an... Inkee Fiddling Day!

Project Life Mojo!

Yesterday was Mojo Monday and this was their sketch.

Mojo 348 Sketch

With the new catalog going live yesterday, my head was spinning with so many new ideas yet it left me oddly with absolutely NO desire to do any stamping. What the? Then I spotted my Everyday Adventure Project Life Card Collection. As such they are for scrapbooking but I had to wonder.

Project Life AssistanceThree cards was all that it took: one for the background, one for the center, and one more for the embellishments as such. Three Candy Dots and a tea-doily sponged with Crumb Cake Classic Ink and Gold Metallic Ink were the final touches.

Mojo Monday 348 - Hi Project Life - JIF

The “HI” was fussy-cut then covered with Liquid Crystal, as was the 1″ Circle that was adhered to the Essentials Wooden Embellishment. One of the off-cuts from the fussy-cutting was used for the banner which was put through the Decorative Dot Embossing Folder.

Mojo Monday 348 - Hi Project Life - HI- JIF

Oh, and if you think my tea-doily is a tad wonky, it is, lol! Having sponged the tea-doily I’d put it aside for the Metallic Ink to dry then promptly forgot about it. I did try to convince myself it wasn’t necessary but couldn’t do it so then had to cut three sides off the tea-doily before gluing them down. Crazy huh?!

You’re in shock aren’t you? Here it is lunch time and I’m already posting my version of this week’s Mojo Monday and what’s more, its tall and skinny. Yikes, never say never!Mojo 343 - Grunge Bermuda Bay - JIF

This is the sketch from Mojo Monday.

Mojo343SketchThe background was my inspiration for today’s card. This stamp from the Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set is what I used on the cardstock of all my pages on my 2013 Scrapbook Albums. My scratch paper was awash with the most wonderful color burst where I’d stamped off the page.

Immediately I knew I wanted to recreate this and did so with Bermuda Bay, Baked Brown Sugar and Crisp Cantaloupe Classic Inks stamped here and there on my background piece. Another stamp from the Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set was stamped off in Coastal Cabana Classic Ink onto Coastal Cabana Cardstock. The sentiment from the Perfect Pennants Stamp Set was also stamped in Coastal Cabana Classic Ink.

The Baked Brown Sugar Cardstock and Soft Suede Cardstock were both run through the Big Shot using the Alphabet Press Embossing Folder then both were sponged with Baked Brown Sugar Classic Ink.

Mojo 343 - Grunge Bermuda Bay - Gorgeous Grunge - JIFFinding something other than flowers as an embellishment is always a challenge for me but thanks to the Simply Stars Stamp Set, you may have noticed I reach for that instead now. Add a little Linen Thread and viola!

Mojo Monday

It would appear I left more than my jeans in Vancouver last week as my Mojo appears to have slipped under the hotel bed also I fear! 🙁

Here is this week’s Mojo Monday sketch which is Tall and Skinny – which is so NOT me. I’m finding this size so extremely difficult to work with. Hence the reason it’s now Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and I’m only just getting there…

Mojo 339 SketchI took one look at this on Monday after printing it off and put it straight back down again; Tuesday I did everything BUT look at it; Wednesday I spent the ENTIRE day alternating between looking at the sketch and looking at Robert Downey Jr (the latter seemingly holding my attention longer…) and then there’s today. This is what I finally came up with and have decided in future no matter what the title, I’m sticking with what I know best – short and squat, lol! Mojo339 - Fresh Prints - JIF

Originally I was going with Whisper White as my base but after three days when I FINALLY changed to the Natural Ivory Cardstock, all was better with the world. For the DSP I chose two from the Fresh Prints Stack, sponging them in Crumb Cake Classic Ink. For the embellishments I went with three Basic Metal Buttons from the Celebrate the Everyday Catalog finished with Linen Thread.

Mojo339 - Metal Buttons - JIFYou may or may not be able to see on the base of the card in VersaMark are Spiral Swirl Stamps to add texture to the base, carrying through with the circles from the bike.

Mojo339 - Sprial Swirls - JIFThe oval was swapped out for a Deco Label in Real Red Cardstock. The 2¾” circle is from the Circle Framelits in Very Vanilla Cardstock but was first stamped in Crumb Cake Classic Ink with a stamp from the Postage Due Stamp Set. Both were adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals with White Candy Dots completing the label after sponging.

Mojo339 - Hello Lovely - JIFFor the sentiment after stamping in Baked Brown Sugar Classic Ink a stamp from the Hello, Lovely Stamp Set, I cut it down, sponged it, then added it to a piece of Coastal Cabana Cardstock cut slightly bigger and also sponged. The two triangles were cut from a scrap from the Fresh Prints DSP Stack.

Card Recipe
Cardstock: Natural Ivory, Real Red, Very Vanilla, Coastal Cabana
Stamp Sets: Spiral Swirls, Postage Due, {Hello, Lovely}
Classic Ink: Crumb Cake, Baked Brown Sugar, Coastal Cabana
DSP: Fresh Prints Stack
Framelits: Deco Labels, Circles
Punch: 3/16″ Corner
Embellishments: Naturals Candy Dots, Basic Metal Buttons, Linen Thread
Essentials: Paper Trimmer, Paper Snips, Big Shot, Stick Strip,
Stampin’ Dimensionals, Sponges, Stampin’ Scrub & Mist

Is it Spring already?

We couldn’t believe it – in a matter of a week we’d heard of five different couples we knew of who had each been blessed with the birth of a son… and one little girl. It’s been so long since I have touched anything even resembling a baby’s card so talk about getting into a completely different mind space!

And of course, me being me, I couldn’t just go down to the Studio and whip something up… oh no… I had something very specific in mind and when it wouldn’t transpire to – well… let’s just say it slowed things up tremendously. It did however remind me that I had made a card a while back  in celebration of a friend’s first grandson that I never posted and now that I’m looking at it again I see I’ve used a retiring colour so without further ado here ’tis… a Fond Farewell to Colour #13 – Summer Sun!

Once again, this card is nothing what I had in mind as I wanted to peg the name onto the string and even had a little jumpsuit cut out for it (an influence from the new catalogue – not long now!)  but it just didn’t look right at all. The blue I’ve used is the Brilliant Blue which is also retiring. Everything on this card is Stampin’ Up! with the exception of the ribbon. I did try the narrow white ribbon from Stampin’ Up! but felt this one in the blue with a little yellow running through it worked much better.

The next card I did was for Harrison’s hairdresser who after four little girls now has his heir! For this card I used another retiring colour so here’s a Fond Farewell to Colour #14 – Only Orange.

I was really happy with this card as I was able to use a few things from my other stash which had me thinking out of the box. What I found amusing was that I’ve never been a great fan of orange but after making this card it really had my creative juices flowing. Consequently I now have depleted my Only Orange supplies. How funny is that?!

Here is another card the orange inspired for a work colleague of my Darling Hubby’s who recently was blessed with his first son also. With the background on Samuel’s card I simply Versamarked it, whereas on Felix’s card on embossed it in orange.

Here are the other two cards I did – yet another boy’s card for Master Blake, then saving the prettiest for last, Miss Emily’s card. Welcome little people!

I just can’t resist the white picket fence on a baby card can I but I haven’t done it on the next one if you are a little over it! Emily’s card is VERY girlie… and NOTHING like I planned it! I know, I too wish there was a something I could take for that as it would save a LOT of pain let me tell you 😉

Oh, and have yourself an... Inkee Fiddling Day!
