I was SOOOOO close!!!

Posted on

Wow, I was this close, this close to having this card completed and posted last night until I remembered why I didn’t use the glue I had used last night very much anymore, choosing instead to always use sticky strip. It was of course the drying time, ugh! It all came back to me like a charging bull. 🙁

Anyways, one thing has led to another and here it is, NOT even first thing this morning rather late at night but regardless, here I am finally posting it. The basis of my card is this week’s Mojo Monday Sketch 323.

Mojo 323 Sketch

This is my card but I should warn you first not EVERYTHING is Stampin’ Up! PLUS I’ve utilized a couple of retired DSPs. On this occasion I’ve gone with the “feel”, not the product so I hope you can forgive me. (And it’s for my mother’s birthday next month!)

Mojo323 - JIF - Happy Birthday Enjoy!

The striped paper I’ve used is from last year’s SU Regals Designer Series Paper Stack which I’ve stamped Flowering Flourishes in that wonderful Illuminate Ink, both from this year’s Annual Catalog. Then I’ve replaced the thread over the DSP shown on the Mojo Sketch with strings of pearls sprouting from either end of the labels which have had the edges sponged in Crumb Cake.

Both of these labels have been cut from the same sized frame-lit, the difference being the Pink Pirouette cardstock was then cut in half so there would be a little showing on either end with the pointed middles snipped off.

The flowers were bought months and months ago from the local Dollar Store, and the light-bulb, well… that was the result of some late night shopping following a scrapbooking crop… need I say more. 🙂Mojo323 - JIF - Enjoy

Of course it’s only now as I look at the card I realize the weight I’ve put in it isn’t the best for posting, lol!

LOVE the heat embossing!

What can I say, when I’m on a good thing I tend to stick to it and when it comes to the heat embossing, well, I can’t get enough of it. Combine that with Embossing Folders and goodness, I’m just one happy little camper, lol!

This card is fabulous when time is of the essence but with the Gold Foil and Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding it still maintains the elegance required for Christmas don’t you think?!

Snowflakes on Soft Skies!

Posted on

I am NOT going to admit to how long I have had my Festive Flurry Bundle before using it for the first time this week but I am willing to admit that I am now wondering how I EVER lived without it, lol! 🙂

With only 29 days until Christmas, here’s the first Christmas miracle of the season so I hope you’re sitting down for it… my Mojo Monday is actually being posted on a Monday, I know, crazy huh?! Anyways, this is this week’s sketch…

Mojo 321 Sketch

Today’s card came about so quickly that it actually scared me with not only the speed in which I created but as to how much I really like the end result. If only I had a French Horn so I could blow it, lol! Without further ado here’s my take on the sketch…

Mojo 321 - Soft Sky Snow Flurry - JIF

On my base of Whisper White I did the smallest border of Soft Sky cardstock around my Winter Frost Specialty DSP. What I’ve used here is the reverse of the same sheet if that makes sense. The next layer was the smallest border of Silver Foil around the Soft Sky cardstock which I embossed with a silver snow-flake from the Warmth & Wonder Hostess Stamp Set.

The layer upon this was the smallest border of Whisper White around Silver Foil. This foil I fully intended to dry emboss with Perfect Polka Dots but was interrupted with a trip to the hospital with Girl Child for vaccinations so forgot, oops! The final layer is a snowflake from the Snow Flurry set which I heat embossed with Iridescent Ice on Whisper White cardstock (sadly though the sparkle isn’t showing on these photos) before cutting it with the corresponding framelit.

Mojo 321 - Soft Sky Snow Flurry - Embossed Layers - JIF

After I’d adhered all the layers on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, I added to the snowflake two of my current favorites from the Holiday Catalog, the Frosted Finishes Embellishments and the “Merry” from the Expressions Thinlits Dies in Silver Foil. LOVE THEM!!! To this I’ve silver embossed “Christmas” onto the DSP from the stamp set Sweet Essentials. This stamp set, if you don’t already have it, is fabulous as it all sentiments which cover many events plus they are quite a reasonable size which I like.

Mojo 321 - Soft Sky Snow Flurry - Merry - JIFYet again I felt like the Swedish chef from the Muppets with my “layer upon layer upon layer” and yes, I did say this to myself repeatedly with the accent over the course of the afternoon! 🙂

Ho Ho Ho – ‘Tis the Season!

Posted on

Yes I know… shock, horror, I’ve actually created something!

What can I say? Mojo Monday, with its weekly card sketch is a fabulous way to get the creativity back in your fingers when your mind is over-crowded with what you should be doing (sadly I refer to house-work), not with what you want to do! This is this week’s sketch.

Mojo 318 SketchThis is my interpretation of the sketch. Not that dissimilar from the sketch for a change actually.

Mojo318 - Ho Ho HoThe strip of DSP from the Season of Style Pack was sitting on my desk so it immediately became part of the card. Then for the sake of expediency I chose three tags from the Season of Style Designer Journaling Tags. Two of these I punched the circles from before coating the edges with silver glitter and one of the beautiful Frosted Finishes Embellishments. With Versamark I stamped the snow flake from the Warmth & Wonder Stamp Set over the Baked Brown Sugar background.

Mojo318 - Let it Snow Embellishment - JIFThe remaining tag I added to a white tag I hand-cut from Whisper White cardstock. More glitter was added to the lights on the tags for  a little ompf and a large bow made from the Cherry Cobbler 1″ Stitched Edge Grosgrain Ribbon. All the edges were sponged with Crumb Cake.

Cherry Cobbler 1″ Stitched Edge Grosgrain Ribbon, Silver Stampin’ Glitter
Essentials: Paper Trimmer, Paper Snips, Multipurpose Liquid Glue,
Stampin’ Dimensionals, Versamark, Sponge, Sticky Strip

With only 50 sleeps until Christmas one should really be up to their armpits in Christmas cards but life has a funny way of getting in the way sometimes doesn’t it? If per chance you are like me, a tad behind, if there’s anything you may need to get started, please call me today (250-632-4248) to place your order!

Why is it some days are just so much faster then others?!

Posted on

What an amazing it day it’s been today and here it is 11pm and I’m still going… not bad considering I only managed FOUR hours of sleeps last night… and the only thing I probably haven’t achieved was any time down in the Studio but hey, today I can live with that!

I’m still in disbelief as to what I’ve achieved all because of some plants! Yes, you read it correctly… plants! It’s always annoyed me that we inherited a front garden that wasn’t quite planted up correctly. I ask you, who in their right mind plants bromeliads into full sun… WHO? So this week-end, we’re righting a wrong!

Having put out an SOS to a dear friend, I was locked and loaded to collect what I thought was some mere cuttings mid-morning.  Preparations for school, returns made, and  a grocery shop and unpack were all made in record time before heading out for these cuttings.

CUTTINGS! Hello, I returned home with the back of my car looking like a nursery – 2B’s I can’t thank you enough. Of course, the majority of these plants needed to be in the ground TODAY so home I went but before I could get to the garden I needed to sort the cupboards under both vanities, reorganise the walk-in robe, vacuum the entire house, take some of our excess to the basement and get gardening gear sorted… that’s all… oh nearly forgot, we also have two extras for sleep-overs tonight!

After all this I didn’t get into the garden until almost 4pm but what I did in an hour impressed even ME. Although after all one side was dug up and planted up, I will admit I did feel a little bit of the dill standing their watering my new plantings… in the rain (lol). So Phase 1 of the full-sun area is complete, tomorrow we start on the shaded area… bring it on!

After all that I feel bad I haven’t a card now highlighting plants in some way. Perhaps tomorrow I’ll squeeze in a butterfly or two to celebrate our gardening achievement. In the meantime here’s a little deja vu as you’ve seen this card before but in one of the retired colours so I’ve redone it to bring it up to speed, so to speak.

This card uses the wonderful Medallion Background combined with Versamark and Stampin’ Pastels. Whenever I get the pastels out it alwasy leaves me wondering why I’m not using them more as the effects and depth of colour you get from them is just fabulous. And no card would be complete at present without an Antique Brad!

Classic Ink: Old Olive
