Scrapbooking a NOT so good day!

Posted on

One of the ports of call on our 2012 Cruise was Norfolk, Virginia. Our shore excursion for this port was what we thought was going to be a morning on a Tall Ship. Granted we going from one ship to another, but I’ve sailed a Tall Ship in Sydney Harbor and it was just so much fun that I wanted to have this same experience with my family.

Well, it wasn’t actually a Tall Ship it was a Schooner and as far as Schooners go, it was very nice. It just wasn’t a Tall Ship. It was smaller. It was cold. The crew was dull. We were bored. We actually had more fun afterwards discovering Hooters!

Scrapbooking this day proved difficult, as disappointing as the morning had been, we’d ended up having a lovely day. There just weren’t that many photos to show this happy ending so what I did was print out only six photos in the style of the old photo booths, attaching them to the page of memorabilia we’d collected.

Single Scrapbook Page - Norfolk - a NOT so great day!

In hindsight as I look at this page now, I wish I’d stamped-off some of The Open Sea Stamps near what would become the edges to the memorabilia just to give it a little more depth. Actually the World Map would have been perfect. Oh well, next time!

Scrapbooking Process…

Everyone it seems scrapbooks in their own unique way.

The way “I” scrapbook seems so straight-forward and logical but eyes have rolled when my “lists” have been seen. Seriously, am I the ONLY person in the scrapbooking world who makes a list when making up a scrapbook, particularly a Vacation Scrapbook? I don’t think so!

Initially the MAIN pages are listed and, as is the case now with doing scrapbooks years after the vacation happened, OTHER pages are then slotted in as my memory is prompted. This is what a list of mine looks like.

North American Cruise Album List

Yep, that’s a white-board – oh how I love a good white-board!

The arrows pointing to the right are in-fact pointing to my “Canada” albums that require commencing. The “plan“, I NOW remember, was to basically do two of each page I created – one for the Canadian Album and one for the United States Album. It didn’t happen. Oops!

Album COMPLETE!!!

Yes that’s right, drum-roll please… my 2012 cruise album is COMPLETE, woo hoo!

2012 Cruise Album

It took awhile to find my groove once again with scrapbooking but this last week I’ve really enjoyed it. Not many of the pages are intricate or involved but I like them.

This double-page below is a perfect example of a quick and clean layout of mine. Simple yet effective PLUS I finally had an opportunity to use some fabric labels that have been in my stash for the longest time! 🙂

Family Photo

How’s your scrapbooking going this summer? Or you busy creating memories to scrap once the children are back in school in the fall? Whatever you are doing, I hope you are keeping cool! 🙂

Scrapbooking Quebec!

Until you sit down to scrapbook, you don’t fully appreciate HOW many or how FEW photos you’ve taken.

When it came to Quebec City, I really didn’t think I had THAT many photos yet I did. This is my SECOND double-page spread. The first double-page I dedicated to our exploring the old city on foot, this double-page spread is devoted to the shore excursion we took.

Quebec Shore Excursion

As you can see not many embellishments at all, the emphasis is on the photos themselves as there are so many. I scanned then reprinted our tickets from the day at a reduced size, using them as an embellishment of sorts.

Scrapbooking – my love/hate relationship!

Scrapbooking for me is MY prompter of what has happened in our lives. Be it a holiday or simply the everyday things, for me its a physical memory of what has occurred.

My problem is I want to remember everything and sometimes I think because of this I often think I’m remembering only a little as I’m on memory-overload. Instant recall isn’t my strong suit but with my scrapbooks it’s there instantly. Well, once it’s completed at least, and therein lies my problem.

Last week-end I finally began sifting through one of my MANY bags of keepsakes to begin the arduous task of scrapbooking our 2012 cruise. Unfortunately for me my process is that everything MUST be completed in chronological order and I mean MUST BE. I do so envy those who can scrap what they want when they like. For me, this is not, and will NEVER be the case.

Hence it took an entire week to complete just the front page alone as I wanted to work on other parts of the cruise but no, I HAD to begin at the beginning. Aaahhh… it is SO frustrating but once this was completed my process is now slowly beginning to gain momentum. SLOWLY. Here is my page… 2012 Cruise - Front Page - JIFAnd yes, I have scanned and printed off in minute-form our tickets from the flights over there but no, I didn’t copy our passports. Admittedly I have done so in the past but thankfully Stampin’ Up! have this issued solved now with their Traveler Stamp Set!

So, one front page down, FIFTEEN double pages to go. No guessing what I’m doing this summer, lol 🙂 , but first I need pack for my anniversary week-end away before I resume the torment that is SCRAPBOOKING. Yea me!
