What an incredible day!

Posted on

Who would have known when David and Margaret started rewinding last night during their movie show that today would be the day it has been!? When Master Eight wandered upstairs this morning I announced to him that within a few hours we could be having a new Prime Minister… he wasn’t happy at first as he thought it meant the surfer was in!

Given the day it’s been it seems quite apt that I’m highlighting the cards from this week’s Make and Take class – Priceless! Unfortunately I’ve had two children home today with nasty coughs so I’m quite behind with the day, having only just finished clearing the tables in the studio to start doing some creating and now I look out the window I see it’s dark… there goes THAT day! Never the less though here are the cards…

This photo doesn’t show very well how all the the larger blue flowers have been twiced stamped – once on the card  itself then onto separate card where I’ve cut them out and used dimensionals under each one. I’ve done the same with the orange butterfly and of course I’ve added Dazzling Diamonds to the butterfly, as well as the small blue flowers!

And yes, I’ve used Dazzling Diamonds on this one too!!!

But no, there are no Dazzling Diamonds on this card as I was going for something a tad more “masculine” here…

Oh, and have yourself an... Inkee Fiddling Day!

VINTAGE VOGUE!

Yes I know, I know… I’ve shown off the Vintage Vogue stamp set before as I said earlier this week, I had a hostess request a “Make and Take” with this set to get some ideas as to what she’ll do with hers – no worries I said. And as I knew  this lovely lady also had some of the Cottage Wall DSP it really wasn’t difficult to design something for her! Also, for a change of direction, I chose to make this card as a 6″x6″. This is what we made…

Plus I won’t deny I had recently viewed a card by the creative Susan Joyce which really tweaked my interest so was able to combine the two… BONUS! Of course it wasn’t until I was collating the kits that I realised that by using the DSP as a background on the 6″x6″ I would only be able to do eight cards MAXIMUM with this particular DSP… DOH! So this is what I did as Plan B… (which was lucky as we had two very late attendees to the workshop that needed to do these cards… phew!)

Anywho, on the Rich Razzleberry card base, I stamped with Rich Razzleberry Classic Ink the leaf stamp from the Vintage Vogue set around the outer edges on the front of the card to create some interest as a background as opposed to a plain background. On the bottom left-hand corner I used the Double Rectangle Punch for threading the ribbon through. It makes ALL the difference, I can’t recommend it enough!

However, I couldn’t stop there could I? As I cut down the Kraft (soon to be renamed Crumb Cake) card-stock I had some substantial off-cuts, the same with the Cottage Wall DSP so wanted to give an example as to how everything has as a use, be it intentionally or not. I think you’d have to agree with me that unless you knew better, you wouldn’t guess the above card was basically made with left-overs!

Lost? I certainly am!

After hearing Whoopie go absolutely nuts about the grand finale of LOST I felt I should be watching it, especially as I was such a fan of it in the beginning but after only five minutes I could sense I had been out of the loop for way to long. And that has pretty much been my day…

I had three lovely clear tables when I walked into the Studio this morning thinking I was doing a WorkShop so as I walked around in circles wondering what I was now to do with my day, I gathered things along the way and started to set up “projects”.

I couldn’t believe myself as it was only yesterday I was saying how I was having to teach myself to focus on completing one project before going onto the next but here I was setting up for a birthday gift that needs to be in the post tomorrow but all I did was choose the colours… I was going to do next months “Stamp a Stack” but decided I didn’t want to use the sets I’d chosen… and on it went…

Hopefully tomorrow I shall actually complete something but here’s something I completed last week-end. Last week-end was the big Stampin’ Up Convention in Sydney. Family commitments had me unable to attend, as was the situation for many a Stampin’ Up Demonstrator hence a little something was organised for those of us not attending… the Unconvention… four days of wonderful challenges.

To kick start all this a card swap was arranged whereby any of us who wanted to participate, we simply put our names down then sent Tanya six cards. Whereby later this week we should in return receive a wonderful assortment of six cards. I can’t wait but as this was my first swap I was ever so nervous about what I was submitting. An ENTIRE week-end later and this was my contribution that I sent off to WA…

The black is on white cardstock that I have actually embossed bamboo leaves around the outer edge.

Happy Mother’s Day!!!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to one and all! I find as my children become older, the emphasis on things changes… for example Mother’s Day. All week there have been mutterings behind cupped hands as to what was being made at school and where things were being hid once home. It was all quiet exciting really!

Gosh, it was only last year my son couldn’t get into the kitchen fast enough to come up with the most wonderful mother’s day breakfast a mother and lover of the BIG BREAKFAST could ever dream of. This year, even though as soon as his eyes were open he was singing me Happy Mother’s Day and telling me that the cat was purring the same (how sweet is that?!), that was that. The things hidden in his room, well, I’ve yet to see them, and as for breakfast… “muuuuum, what are we having for breakfast?”

But hey, I’m onto my second pot of coffee, am still in my pj’s, and have George on the TV screen so I’m not complaining. I even dreamt about George last night… only I could dream about George Clooney giving me aperture lessons for my camera… geez! Plus, we’re meeting my parents shortly for a lovely lunch up at Harry’s so it’s all good.

Besides, the hubster did give  me two gift vouchers last week-end from the children to ensure I received EXACTLY what I wanted so tomorrow I shall go shopping to see just what it is that my life is incomplete without. And he did ever so kindly give me a set of alphabet dies for my BIG SHOT which I am soooooooo excited about and have barely been able to wait to use them. Tomorrow is going to be one busy day!

I see time is ticking so I’d best get showered and changed but before I go here is what I’ve done for my mother this year. This is the card which I am EVER so proud of. As I’ve said before, embellishments are my weakness so has been something I’ve really had to challenge myself with since joining Stampin’ Up! but as you can see, I think I’m doin’ okay. I’m simply making my embellishments now rather then reaching for a packet which may seem expensive but when you see how may embellishments I’ve bought over time and NOT used, I think the new way is working out far more economical as I make what I need when I need it! So here ’tis, this one is A5 but I did one recently for a neighbour in A6 which was just as effective…

Now, as for the packaging all I did was “tweak” a brown paper bag I had on hand. Once again, I’m rather chuffed at my first effort. In hindsight I would have lowered the DSP I used but hey, it was my first time. And in hindsight if I’d matched the papers to the card it may have been even more of an impact… next time!

Once again Happy Mother’s Day everyone!

Oh, and have yourself an... Inkee Fiddling Day!
