And so another term begins…

Posted on

And what better way to start the term then at McDonald’s for dinner on the first night back at school! Yes, what can I say but “Mother-of-the-Year” strikes again.

After such a wonderful week-end of Master Eight turning Nine, my parents joining us for a sleep-over to help celebrate such an auspicious occasion, and my husband surprising us with an additional night at home, well… what can I say? We just didn’t want the fun to end… and that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!

I can’t believe Term 3 has finally commenced – it doesn’t seem that long ago that the holidays actually commenced. Not that very much was accomplished on my “to-do” list. As I was tidying up the studio today I realised I should have set myself the task of doing just one little job everyday instead of loads of big ones but what’s that saying… hindsight is a wonderful thing!

BUT… one thing I did manage to achieve was my “Live, Love, Life, Laugh” wall hangings… oh yea me!!! Here ’tis…

Of course, looking at them now I feel I could tweak them a tad more but I’m more then happy with how they are now and you know what… apart from the square canvas for each, all other products were Stampin’ Up!  (and you know what’s really sad, initially I was afraid I’d mess up each canvas so made up a cardstock square to fit over the top of each one so…). Yup, this girl is slowly gettin’ there!

Another month is almost upon us…

Posted on

so before it’s actually here, here is a glimpse of what we’ll be doing this week in my Technique Tuesday/Technique Thursday Class (Tuesday 1st – 9.30-11.30am and Thursday 3rd – 7-9pm). This month I’m focusing on the Stampin’ Pastels.

These are something I have to admit, if they hadn’t been a compulsory purchase in my SU Kit,I would never have bought them but THANK GOODNESS I DIDI LOVE THEM!!!

This month I’ve highlighted three different styles within this one technique. One is to make the SU! pastels POP with Versamark; a second is to use the dauber to sponge the chalk directly onto the card-stock then  from this create a wonderful lattice effect; and the last one is utilising the pastels to create a water colour effect. All very different yet all as effective as the other!

Please remember, numbers are limited in these classes so should you be interested in learning more about this wonderful technique, please contact me soon to confirm your place. Also, should these dates NOT be convenient for you, should you have at least another two friends interested in attending, a class can be arranged at a time convenient to the both of us!

Oh, and have yourself an... Inkee Fiddling Day!

Ta-dah!!!

After many a month of procrastination I’ve finally completed my birdhouse. Naturally, the end result is NOTHING like what I had in mind so Robin, if you thought the picture I showed you during the week was too busy then look away NOW as this one is WAY more busy. What can I say, I just couldn’t stop making flowers!

Once again, taking the photo at night has done my work no favours but  the flowers have all been made with the Raspberry Tart DSP. And yes, you can see the Big Shot’s Little Leaf of course, I just can’t stop myself from using it can I?!

But I have to say I’m rather chuffed at the birdhouse and it’s end result. I made my first 3D template this week – WOO-HOO – quite the milestone. Will there be any stopping me now? Oh, if only there were more hours in the day!!!

Oh, and have yourself an... Inkee Fiddling Day!

Happy Mother’s Day!!!

Posted on

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to one and all! I find as my children become older, the emphasis on things changes… for example Mother’s Day. All week there have been mutterings behind cupped hands as to what was being made at school and where things were being hid once home. It was all quiet exciting really!

Gosh, it was only last year my son couldn’t get into the kitchen fast enough to come up with the most wonderful mother’s day breakfast a mother and lover of the BIG BREAKFAST could ever dream of. This year, even though as soon as his eyes were open he was singing me Happy Mother’s Day and telling me that the cat was purring the same (how sweet is that?!), that was that. The things hidden in his room, well, I’ve yet to see them, and as for breakfast… “muuuuum, what are we having for breakfast?”

But hey, I’m onto my second pot of coffee, am still in my pj’s, and have George on the TV screen so I’m not complaining. I even dreamt about George last night… only I could dream about George Clooney giving me aperture lessons for my camera… geez! Plus, we’re meeting my parents shortly for a lovely lunch up at Harry’s so it’s all good.

Besides, the hubster did give  me two gift vouchers last week-end from the children to ensure I received EXACTLY what I wanted so tomorrow I shall go shopping to see just what it is that my life is incomplete without. And he did ever so kindly give me a set of alphabet dies for my BIG SHOT which I am soooooooo excited about and have barely been able to wait to use them. Tomorrow is going to be one busy day!

I see time is ticking so I’d best get showered and changed but before I go here is what I’ve done for my mother this year. This is the card which I am EVER so proud of. As I’ve said before, embellishments are my weakness so has been something I’ve really had to challenge myself with since joining Stampin’ Up! but as you can see, I think I’m doin’ okay. I’m simply making my embellishments now rather then reaching for a packet which may seem expensive but when you see how may embellishments I’ve bought over time and NOT used, I think the new way is working out far more economical as I make what I need when I need it! So here ’tis, this one is A5 but I did one recently for a neighbour in A6 which was just as effective…

Now, as for the packaging all I did was “tweak” a brown paper bag I had on hand. Once again, I’m rather chuffed at my first effort. In hindsight I would have lowered the DSP I used but hey, it was my first time. And in hindsight if I’d matched the papers to the card it may have been even more of an impact… next time!

Once again Happy Mother’s Day everyone!

Oh, and have yourself an... Inkee Fiddling Day!
