Butterfly Textures (Freshly Made Sketches 300)

Posted on

You know you have it bad when the first thing you think of on waking is “how can I tweak that card-front base to make it work“. And the really hilarious thing is that even the tweak was tweaked!😂

Immediately adhering the base is not something I would usually do and am really not sure what made me do this. It made things that much more difficult in the end. Here is my take on this week’s Freshly Made Sketches 300.

This is the original sketch from Freshly Made Sketches which was my inspiration.

With a little masking, some silver embossing, a strip of foil cut with thinlets, along with a thinlets butterfly “splashed inked” and blinged up and voila, done!

Snowflakes on Soft Skies!

I am NOT going to admit to how long I have had my Festive Flurry Bundle before using it for the first time this week but I am willing to admit that I am now wondering how I EVER lived without it, lol! 🙂

With only 29 days until Christmas, here’s the first Christmas miracle of the season so I hope you’re sitting down for it… my Mojo Monday is actually being posted on a Monday, I know, crazy huh?! Anyways, this is this week’s sketch…

Mojo 321 Sketch

Today’s card came about so quickly that it actually scared me with not only the speed in which I created but as to how much I really like the end result. If only I had a French Horn so I could blow it, lol! Without further ado here’s my take on the sketch…

Mojo 321 - Soft Sky Snow Flurry - JIF

On my base of Whisper White I did the smallest border of Soft Sky cardstock around my Winter Frost Specialty DSP. What I’ve used here is the reverse of the same sheet if that makes sense. The next layer was the smallest border of Silver Foil around the Soft Sky cardstock which I embossed with a silver snow-flake from the Warmth & Wonder Hostess Stamp Set.

The layer upon this was the smallest border of Whisper White around Silver Foil. This foil I fully intended to dry emboss with Perfect Polka Dots but was interrupted with a trip to the hospital with Girl Child for vaccinations so forgot, oops! The final layer is a snowflake from the Snow Flurry set which I heat embossed with Iridescent Ice on Whisper White cardstock (sadly though the sparkle isn’t showing on these photos) before cutting it with the corresponding framelit.

Mojo 321 - Soft Sky Snow Flurry - Embossed Layers - JIF

After I’d adhered all the layers on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, I added to the snowflake two of my current favorites from the Holiday Catalog, the Frosted Finishes Embellishments and the “Merry” from the Expressions Thinlits Dies in Silver Foil. LOVE THEM!!! To this I’ve silver embossed “Christmas” onto the DSP from the stamp set Sweet Essentials. This stamp set, if you don’t already have it, is fabulous as it all sentiments which cover many events plus they are quite a reasonable size which I like.

Mojo 321 - Soft Sky Snow Flurry - Merry - JIFYet again I felt like the Swedish chef from the Muppets with my “layer upon layer upon layer” and yes, I did say this to myself repeatedly with the accent over the course of the afternoon! 🙂

I needed to look up my OWN class details for one reason or another and noticed that I hadn’t been doing any updating with picture of late. Not even a sneak peek which is a bit rude of me I must say so my apologies. So just quickly, here is this month’s Make and Take. Mark it on your calendar if you haven’t already, Make and Take Monday is the THIRD Monday of each month. Call me now if you’d to book as I do like to keep numbers to a maximum of just six.

Now, this first card bids a Fond Farewell to Colour #21 – Gable Green.

This photo does not do justice to this card at all as the card itself is Soft Suede– yep, hard to believe  but it is! The next card has two of my favourite colour – Old Olive and Elegant Eggplant PLUS bling – delightful.

Then for the third card, I used colours that were more masculine – Only Orange, Chocolate Chip and Night of Navy.

We couldn’t believe it – in a matter of a week we’d heard of five different couples we knew of who had each been blessed with the birth of a son… and one little girl. It’s been so long since I have touched anything even resembling a baby’s card so talk about getting into a completely different mind space!

And of course, me being me, I couldn’t just go down to the Studio and whip something up… oh no… I had something very specific in mind and when it wouldn’t transpire to – well… let’s just say it slowed things up tremendously. It did however remind me that I had made a card a while back  in celebration of a friend’s first grandson that I never posted and now that I’m looking at it again I see I’ve used a retiring colour so without further ado here ’tis… a Fond Farewell to Colour #13 – Summer Sun!

Once again, this card is nothing what I had in mind as I wanted to peg the name onto the string and even had a little jumpsuit cut out for it (an influence from the new catalogue – not long now!)  but it just didn’t look right at all. The blue I’ve used is the Brilliant Blue which is also retiring. Everything on this card is Stampin’ Up! with the exception of the ribbon. I did try the narrow white ribbon from Stampin’ Up! but felt this one in the blue with a little yellow running through it worked much better.

The next card I did was for Harrison’s hairdresser who after four little girls now has his heir! For this card I used another retiring colour so here’s a Fond Farewell to Colour #14 – Only Orange.

I was really happy with this card as I was able to use a few things from my other stash which had me thinking out of the box. What I found amusing was that I’ve never been a great fan of orange but after making this card it really had my creative juices flowing. Consequently I now have depleted my Only Orange supplies. How funny is that?!

Here is another card the orange inspired for a work colleague of my Darling Hubby’s who recently was blessed with his first son also. With the background on Samuel’s card I simply Versamarked it, whereas on Felix’s card on embossed it in orange.

Here are the other two cards I did – yet another boy’s card for Master Blake, then saving the prettiest for last, Miss Emily’s card. Welcome little people!

I just can’t resist the white picket fence on a baby card can I but I haven’t done it on the next one if you are a little over it! Emily’s card is VERY girlie… and NOTHING like I planned it! I know, I too wish there was a something I could take for that as it would save a LOT of pain let me tell you 😉

It’s the 11th so… it must be a Fond Farewell to Colour #11!

Very short and sweet tonight… it’s taken me two hours just to get here why… I’m so tired that even with the laptop balancing on my knee I couldn’t remember what I’m meant to be doing!

And it doesn’t help when I have a very sad and sorry Master Nine down the hallway in bed coughing his little heart out, then on top of that he’s sleep-talking so loudly he’s waking himself up… not good:(  This combined with Miss Seven sleeping with me again with her hair-band being worn over her eyes as my bedside light keeps her awake but she knows better then to dare complain about it… one can’t help but to smile out loud!

Last night I went to sleep with the delightful sound of the rain falling heavily and our little creek gushing but alas, the reports said the weather was clearing today and for once, I fear they are correct. I do so like it when it rains. Not that I’ve had a real chance to appreciate it this week with Master Nine not being well. Although not sick sick, the poor darling isn’t himself and has been staying close so I’m hesitant about heading down to the studio.

However I digress, Fond Farewell to Colour #11 – Hunter Green. This is a beautiful rich dark green which to me screams Christmas. Hence the reason I’ve used it for the Christmas card below, embossing with silver on the card. With the pillow box I embossed with white to compare the two colours. Both are as quickly as nice but I do confess, I do lean towards the silver. I love the idea of these pillow boxes as name cards on a well-dressed table. What fun you could have filling them at Christmas!

And don’t forget, there’s only another 20 days left to order any of these retiring colours so contact me today to place your order – I look forward to chatting with you soon!

He was hoping he’d be washed ashore…
