Spring has Sprung!

Posted on

After yesterday’s introduction into Spring I wasn’t expecting much out of today at all but wouldn’t you know it, by 10.30 this morning I had every window and door (including the bi-folds out onto the deck) open it was so warm, and the rustling in the bushes… oh my, the lizards are coming out of hibernation!

I could hear something large outside the kitchen window but each time I looked out there was nothing to be seen. Eventually the noise became much louder, as if a large dog was walking through the back neighbours ferns and dead palm fronds yet not a leaf was moving when suddenly I had a cat either side me also looking out. What do they know that we don’t as it was then a head appeared from the foliage. It was Brutus, our resident three foot river dragon emerging after many months away!

Later when I went down to the Studio, there was another river dragon sunning itself on a rock. I do so love my lizards but I’m mighty glad that none of them pop out to say hello two afternoon’s ago when Harrison and I were scrambling around the urban forest looking for his football. It was hard enough with the heels but add a lizard to the mix… yikes!

But speaking of the Studio, here are the the cards that were made for August’s Make and Take using the Always stamp set and just a smidge of some of the new DSP (the name of which escapes me just at the moment and upstairs seems so very far away right now to go and get my new catalogue to check). So here is the first card made with Mambo Melon.

The second card was in the Tangerine, using a number of different hand punches and the Top Note Die Cut and the Alphabet  for the Big Shot (ooooo, I love my Big Shot!). I was most impressed with how after stamping the heart it was possible to use the Full Heart Punch to capture the pattern.

The third card was in Bashful Blue using the DSP.

The Lucky Last!

Oh my gosh… talk about being on auto pilot… I’ve been awake since 3.30 this morning so now I keep falling asleep as I sit here attempting to write this so goodness knows if I’m going to make any sense but here ’tis, my last three colours on the Colour Renovation Chart.

Actually here are six of the retiring colours and DSP’s that I’ve used for Term 3’s thank you gifts for the teachers and the lovely ladies at the school office as I like them to know how much I appreciate their hard work each term. Beside the colours I’m highlighting below I’ve also used Barely Banana, Really Rust and Apricot Appeal.

These came about as I really wanted to make some notelets with the Big Shot Scallop Circle Die Cut but to simply put them into a box didn’t seem right so I made up a template of a hand-bag that would hold them. I made four notelets for each bag – two each of two designs. (And I’ve used one of the new punches from the 2010-2011 catty – can you spot it?)

Okay… here is  Fond Farewell to Colour #28 – Blush Blossom.

Here is a Fond Farewell to Colour #29 – Pale Plum.

Here is a Fond Farewell to Colour #30 – Orchid Opulence.

I’m really happy with how they turned out but I’ve dozed off so many times now I’m signing off as the alarm is already set for 4.30am as I need to make a dozen or two cupcakes before school tomorrow. Yes, seemed like a really good idea last week when I planned to make them then and there then put them into the freezer so I would be organised. As I’ve said before, just call me FOGI!

Is it Spring already?

We couldn’t believe it – in a matter of a week we’d heard of five different couples we knew of who had each been blessed with the birth of a son… and one little girl. It’s been so long since I have touched anything even resembling a baby’s card so talk about getting into a completely different mind space!

And of course, me being me, I couldn’t just go down to the Studio and whip something up… oh no… I had something very specific in mind and when it wouldn’t transpire to – well… let’s just say it slowed things up tremendously. It did however remind me that I had made a card a while back  in celebration of a friend’s first grandson that I never posted and now that I’m looking at it again I see I’ve used a retiring colour so without further ado here ’tis… a Fond Farewell to Colour #13 – Summer Sun!

Once again, this card is nothing what I had in mind as I wanted to peg the name onto the string and even had a little jumpsuit cut out for it (an influence from the new catalogue – not long now!)  but it just didn’t look right at all. The blue I’ve used is the Brilliant Blue which is also retiring. Everything on this card is Stampin’ Up! with the exception of the ribbon. I did try the narrow white ribbon from Stampin’ Up! but felt this one in the blue with a little yellow running through it worked much better.

The next card I did was for Harrison’s hairdresser who after four little girls now has his heir! For this card I used another retiring colour so here’s a Fond Farewell to Colour #14 – Only Orange.

I was really happy with this card as I was able to use a few things from my other stash which had me thinking out of the box. What I found amusing was that I’ve never been a great fan of orange but after making this card it really had my creative juices flowing. Consequently I now have depleted my Only Orange supplies. How funny is that?!

Here is another card the orange inspired for a work colleague of my Darling Hubby’s who recently was blessed with his first son also. With the background on Samuel’s card I simply Versamarked it, whereas on Felix’s card on embossed it in orange.

Here are the other two cards I did – yet another boy’s card for Master Blake, then saving the prettiest for last, Miss Emily’s card. Welcome little people!

I just can’t resist the white picket fence on a baby card can I but I haven’t done it on the next one if you are a little over it! Emily’s card is VERY girlie… and NOTHING like I planned it! I know, I too wish there was a something I could take for that as it would save a LOT of pain let me tell you 😉

Fond Farewell… Colours #9 and #10!

Yee-ha… two for the price of one – you gotta be happy with that!

I found this card on the week-end and what a bonus I felt it was as it was highlighting not one but TWO retiring colours. These two colours  are from the Bold Brights family and are, Brilliant Blue and Green Galore – once again, two very strong colours. This was one of the three cards from a Make and Take Class of mine a few months ago for the stamp set Priceless.

Remember, you have until August 31 to place an order on retiring colours or any other items for that matter that are being retired so don’t ponder too long – call me today to place your order so you don’t miss out!

Joke of the day…

And so another term begins…

And what better way to start the term then at McDonald’s for dinner on the first night back at school! Yes, what can I say but “Mother-of-the-Year” strikes again.

After such a wonderful week-end of Master Eight turning Nine, my parents joining us for a sleep-over to help celebrate such an auspicious occasion, and my husband surprising us with an additional night at home, well… what can I say? We just didn’t want the fun to end… and that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!

I can’t believe Term 3 has finally commenced – it doesn’t seem that long ago that the holidays actually commenced. Not that very much was accomplished on my “to-do” list. As I was tidying up the studio today I realised I should have set myself the task of doing just one little job everyday instead of loads of big ones but what’s that saying… hindsight is a wonderful thing!

BUT… one thing I did manage to achieve was my “Live, Love, Life, Laugh” wall hangings… oh yea me!!! Here ’tis…

Of course, looking at them now I feel I could tweak them a tad more but I’m more then happy with how they are now and you know what… apart from the square canvas for each, all other products were Stampin’ Up!  (and you know what’s really sad, initially I was afraid I’d mess up each canvas so made up a cardstock square to fit over the top of each one so…). Yup, this girl is slowly gettin’ there!

Oh, and have yourself an... Inkee Fiddling Day!
