Migraine Monday, oops, MOJO MONDAY!

Posted on

Sorry. I woke Friday morning with a throbbing head which is still hurting today. So apart from a doctor’s appointment which was already scheduled for that day, then dropping off Boy Child at a party on Saturday, I’ve pretty much been both PJ and bed bound.

My head is still not 100% but I daresay that has something more to do today with the salmon smoking which took place in our kitchen last night. The salmon tastes divine but the smoke residue still lingering in the air is doing absolutely NOTHING for my head.

Anyways, enough of my pity-party. With Canadian Thanksgiving being celebrated next month this is my card for today’s Mojo Monday sketch.

Mojo361 - Mingle All The Way - JIF

There was just SO MUCH white space on this weeks sketch which didn’t help my head at all. This is the MOJO MONDAY sketch for today. As you can see, not much deviation from the original at ALL today on my part.

Mojo 361 Sketch!

Of late I’ve rediscovered Sahara Sand Cardstock so with this as base I added a pattern from the Trim the Tree DSP Stack in darker tones. Then added a much lighter pattern from the Moonlight DSP Stack. Some Pumpkin Pie Chevron Ribbon completing the base.

For my square on the right I went with a base of Early Espresso Cardstock with Tangelo Twist Cardstock on top of that. First I stamped, also in Tangelo Twist Classic Ink, two of the houses from the Holiday Home Stamp Set, then on top of that stamped in Early Espresso Classic Ink a stamp from the Mingle All the Way Stamp Set. Finishing off the square with stamped leaves also from the Holiday Home Stamp Set.

Mojo361 - Mingle All The Way - Thanksgiving Happiness - JIF

With Thanksgiving in mind, I chose to stamp two of the feathers from the Four Feathers Stamp Set. The larger in Early Espresso Classic Ink on Early Espresso Cardstock, the smaller feather in Soft Suede Classic Ink on Soft Suede Cardstock. I then used the co-ordinating Feathers Framelits Dies to cut them. Sponging both with Crumb Cake Classic Ink before adhering.

Flowering Flourishes in the Garden!

Posted on

You know it’s Monday when you see one of the wonderful sketches from Mojo Monday appearing in your in-box. This is today’s sketch..

Mojo 336 - what will YOUR card look like?

For something a little different this week I went with a square card – this is it.

Mojo 336 - Flowering Flourishes in the Garden - JIF

This piece of DSP had been sitting on my table all week so decided today would be the perfect opportunity to utilize it. My base card was Very Vanilla Cardstock, onto this went Early Espresso Cardstock which had been stamped with Flowering Flourishes in Versamark then sponged in Early Espresso Classic Ink.  The Soho Subway DSP edges were sponged in Soft Suede Classic Ink before lengths of Baked Brown Sugar 3/8″ Ruffle Stretch Trim was added then adhered to the Early Espresso Cardstock.

Mojo 336 - Flowering Flourishes - stamping

Instead of two circles I chose to do one of the Deco Labels Framelits in Baked Brown Sugar Cardstock which I sponged in Soft Suede Classic Ink. To this I added a 2-¾” Circle cut from the Circle Framelits in Very Vanilla Cardstock. Onto this I stamped-off one of the Flowering Flourishes stamps in Crumb Cake Classic Ink. The sentiment from Sassy Salutations was stamped in Early Espresso Classic Ink and in hindsight should have been placed more to the top instead of being centered. Oh well. At the time though I wasn’t going to add flowers!

From the Secret Garden Framelits in Pistachio Pudding Core’dinations four stems of leaves were cut and sponged VERY lightly with Crumb Cake Classic Ink. Onto this was added a single Flower Shop stamp in Crumb Cake Classic Ink onto Crumb Cake Cardstock then punched with the Pansy Punch. A Large Pearl Basic Jewel was added to the center of the flower.

The Open Sea on Sweet Sorbet!

As I’ve mentioned MANY times before, having being born beautiful instead of rich (yes, I can laugh at myself – although these days it’s more jiggling than giggling) I tend to save EVERYTHING. Eventually it all becomes useful.

My size determiner is the usability of the products. Ribbon for example have to be long enough to either fit across a two-inch wide tag which thus in-turn makes it’s large enough to be used on the end of sentiment, tag or such.

Open Sea - Ribbon Scraps - JIF

For cardstock and DSP, my smallest punch is the determiner. Thus if I can put a scrap into a punch – I save it. Note the small punched circle on the tag above, seriously who wants to lose a sheet of fresh cardstock to that small-fry?!

As exemplified on the card below, the scrap doesn’t even have to fit the punch completely. Don’t you just love the Sahara Sand Cardstock which compliments this sheet of DSP from Sweet Sorbet perfectly?

Scrap-tastic Sale-a-BrationThis DSP is just one of the many delights which can be yours FREE during Sale-a-Bration 2014 when you spend $60 or more. EVERY $60 you spend you receive something FREE! Open Sea Thank You!

Posted on

Recently as you may or may not know, I had a VERY unexpected trip where I was blessed with MANY people helping me make it possible. Embarrassingly I’ve only JUST completed thank you cards for them all as I wanted a card that would show how much I appreciated their time and efforts.

These cards also gave me an opportunity to attempt various techniques for backgrounds that I’ve wanted to try for the longest time. White Gloss Cardstock always highlights these techniques best but as you can see, Whisper White Cardstock works just fine! So grab a coffee and let me walk you through what I created…

On the first card I used felt I’d cut down to fit onto the Stampin’ Sanding System instead of the sandpaper. The felt was then drenched in some Rubbing Alcohol bought at the supermarket. Drops were then quickly put onto the felt from the Summer Starfruit and Soft Sky Ink Refills then dabbed randomly over the cardstock creating this mishmash of blended colors.

From the Spring Catalog I chose three arrows from the  Essentials Wooden Elements which I pushed together and stamped in Early Espresso Classic Ink with the globe stamp from The Open Sea Stamp Set. In retrospect I should have chosen a less busy section of the stamp as if you didn’t know there was a picture of the world on it, it would look just a smidge murky, lol.

Also on this card from the Spring Catalog I’ve used the negative framelit from the On Film Framelits Dies and the Basic Metal Buttons which have been tied off with some Early Espresso Bakers Twine. The ruffles were made with Soft Sky 1/2″ Seam Binding Ribbon. A little Gorgeous Grunge in Early Espresso Classic Ink finished off the embellishing on Crumb Cake Cardstock. The sentiment stamped on Soft Sky Cardstock was from Delightful Dozen.

Tallinn - Ruffled RibbonFor this next card’s background the Summer Starfruit Classic Ink overtook the Marina Mist Classic Ink I used but I’m still happy with the results but this time instead of dripping ink onto felt I swiped the ink over the Silicone Craft Sheet, ensuring the colors were very close but now touching, then squirted water onto the Craft Sheet until it beaded.

Over this I gently placed the background cardstock and kept placing it onto the color bead until the cardstock was totally covered, then placed it wet side down onto a towel to help take some of the moisture out of the cardstock. To speed up the drying process I also used my Stampin’ Heat Tool.

To this background I used The Open Sea Stamp Set in Crumb Cake Classic Ink which I’d stamped off before stamping onto the dried cardstock. The “woo hoo” came from the Just Sayin’ Stamp Set in the Spring Catalog, as did the camera from the On Film Framelits Dies which was finished off with a Large Pearl Basic Jewel for the lense.

Tallinn - Soft SkyFor the final card I swiped Marina Mist Classic Ink and Summer Starfruit Classic Ink onto the Silicone Craft Sheet but this time I did a swipe of the Marina Mist Classic Ink above and below the Summer Starfruit Classic Ink. Onto this once dried I used the “blob” stamp from the Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set in Island Indigo to finish off the mishmash look. Just a “peek” of Red Glitter Pepper completing the card.

Tallinn - Summer StarfruitCARD RECIPE
Cardstock: Whisper White, Summer Starfruit, Midnight Muse, Crumb Cake
Stamp Sets: Just Sayin’, Gorgeous Grunge, The Open Sea, Delightful Dozen
Classic Inks: Summer Starfruit, Marina Mist, Island Indigo, Early Espresso, Crumb Cake
Big Shot: On Film Framelits Dies
Punch: 3/16″ Corner
Ribbon: Early Espresso Bakers Twine, Soft Sky 1/2″ Seam Binding
Embellishments: Large & Pearl Basic Jewels, Red Glitter Paper,
Hung Up Cute Clips, Essentials Wooden Elements, Basic Metal Buttons
Essentials: Paper Trimmer, Paper Snips, Sticky Strip, Stampin’ Spritzer,
Stampin’ Scrub & Mist, Silicone Craft Sheet, Sponge, Stampin’ Dimensionals
+ old towel

If you should be interested in trying these techniques for yourself but are a little uncertain, I’d be happy to help. Simply get together two or more friends and we’ll call it a party ’cause remember, it’s SALE-A-BRATION time!

Happy New Year!

Posted on

Oh. My. Gosh. I know it gets busy leading up to, and over Christmas and New Year’s, but seriously, given how we’d planned something fairly “low-key”, I wasn’t expecting time to whiz by as it did. So here I am, almost the END of January, and I’m only now saying… Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I do so hope you had a wonderful time however you may have celebrated 😉

Now back to creating… it’s Monday which means… MOJO MONDAY! This week the ladies are trying something different over at the MOJO blog with the card shape – this week its tall and skinny like me, so NOT! This is it…

Mojo Monday Sketch 330This is my take on the card using some of the wonderful new products from the Spring Catalog, along with a couple from Sale-a-Bration which commences in just a few short hours!

Mojo Monday 330 - Thank You TallinnMy card size is 3.5″x5.5″ and is a flip top for a change. The base of my card is Naturals Ivory. Onto this I’ve used some beautiful Sweet Sorbet DSP and run a piece of Naturals Ivory through with the Decorative Dots Embossing Folder, both of which can be yours FREE with every $60 you spend through until March 31 courtesy of Sale-a-Bration 2014!

Mojo330 - On-Film Framelits Die - JIFThen as I’ve made this card as a thank you to the couple who moved into our house to look after the cats and kids whilst Hubby and I were away a couple of weeks ago, from the Spring Catalog I’ve used one of the dies from the On Film set in Early Espresso to aptly frame a photo I took whilst in Tallinn.

This is layered on top of a strip of Crumb Cake that I’ve stamped with the Gorgeous Grunge again in Early Espresso. The ribbon is the beautiful 1/2″ Seam Binding in Daffodil Delight to pick up the subtle yellow in the DSP.

Mojo330 - Essentials Wooden Elements - JIFAs an embellishment I’ve stamped directly onto one of the Essentials Wooden Elements from the Spring Catalog with Early Espresso Classic Ink, sponging the edges with both the Pistachio Pudding and Baked Brown Sugar, adhering it with some Sticky Strip. Talking of sponging, I also sponged the edges of the DSP and embossed strip before adhering it to the base.

CARD RECIPE
Cardstock: Naturals Ivory, Early Espresso, Crumb Cake
Stamp Sets: Gorgeous Grunge, A Round Array
Classic Ink: Baked Brown Sugar, Pistachio Pudding, Early Espresso
Ribbon: 1/2″ Daffodil Delight Seam Binding
Big Shot: On Film Framelits Dies, Decorative Dots Embossing Folder
Embellishments: Essentials Wooden Elements
Punch: 3/16″ Corner
